Michael began his dance training in Jazz and Tap in Hong Kong at the age of 5.

It was during his upbringing in Hong Kong that he worked his way through the ISTD Tap syllabus while participating in both amateur and professional productions with companies such as the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, ABA Productions, and Baz & Maz. He also had the opportunity to play Young Cosmo in Singin' in the Rain (Australia international tour) in Hong Kong.

He then went on to start his professional training at Laine Theatre Arts.
